Stick to statute, FUFA tells Kawaasa committee

Fufa has welcomed appointment of Abas Kawaase as head of the committee to harmonize their differences with Uganda Super League.

While addressing the weekly press conference at Mengo on Wednesday FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa said that the federation was optimistic that the committee would find a lasting solution to their differences with USL.

"When you look at the names on the committee, you see people who have their backgrounds in football and that means they have them at heart. I convinced football will win," Mulindwa said.

The committee will have its first meeting at Mosa Courts, Nakasero at 10:00am on Thursday.

State minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi on Tuesday appointed former FUFA presidential aspirant Abbas Kawaase as interim head of the committee that is charged with listening to FUFA and USL with a view to find a lasting solution to their fights.

Mulindwa however insisted that FUFA will corporate with the committee in line with world football governing body FIFA, continental body CAF and its own statutes.

FUFA and USL have been battling for authority over management of the national football league that has seen chairman of the clubs’ umbrella body USLL Kavuma Kabenge banned for eleven years.

This season’s competition has also been postponement twice and FUFA ordering replay of some matches as the results were disregarded.  Despite Kabenge’s ban he is still the main decision maker in Uganda Super League Limited.

The committee also has National Council of sports chairman Anthony Katamba, NCS secretary Jasper Aligawesa, veteran journalist Badru Ziwa, Sports commissioner Dan Tamwesigire lawyer Nyanzi Kiboneka, former Express chairman Godfrey Kirumira, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala and personal secretary to the minister Yusuf Mukoka, who will act as the secretary.
