Arubi on Black Leopards radar

Arubi on Black Leopards radar
Zimbabwe's reigning Footballer of the Year Washington Arubi is on the list of wanted players for Black Leopards.

The Limpopo based ABSA premiership side has made Arubi their number one signing target and head coach Sunday Chidzambwa, who has string links with Dynamos, has been mandated to prize-away the Dynamos goalie to Limpopo to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

There have been concerns over the performance of the goalkeepers at Leopards during the past season in which Lidoda Duvha had to win their final match 3-1 against Ajax Cape Town to make sure of their stay in the premier division of South African football.

Arubi has had trials at another PSL side Platinum Stars before, but it is not clear why he was not offered a deal given his talent.

Now Leopards are looking at luring the keeper who has been linked with a move from Dynamos to a club in Poland for some time now.

The 27-year old won the championship with Dynamos last season, and was at some point preferred over Tapuwa Kapini in the Zimbabwe Warriors team during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Interestingly, Arubi, despite having been voted the best player in the Zimbabwean league only some few months ago, finds himself out of the Warriors World Cup squad. This is possibly due to Dynamos' shock  recent 6-0 loss away at Esperance in Tunisia in the CAF Champions League.

Despite that nightmarish performance by the entire Dynamos team, Arubi remains a better goalkeeper than most of the keepers selected by interim Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and a return leg in the AFCON 2013 qualifier against Burundi.

If Leopards manage to capture Arubi, that will certainly be a good buy for the modest PSL side.
