Nyandoro in Warriors squad, Billiat injured

Warrior at heart Esrom Nyandoro
Veteran midfielder Esrom Nyandoro who had been inexplicably left out of the initial Zimbabwe World Cup qualifiers' squad, has been drafted back into the squad and is set to close the void left by Khama Billiat who apparently failed to recover on time for the Guinea match.

Zimbabwe is due to face Guinea at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday in the opening 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier.  Even if Billiat misses the Guinea match, he can recover on time to play against Mozambique in two weeks time.

Billiat is one of the four returning players after he and three others were cleared by the Ethics Disciplinary Committee of match-fixing. The other players are star midfielders Ovidy Karuru based in France and Kaizer Chiefs' Willard Katsande and Moroka Swallows' big midfielder Oscar Machapa.

The Ajax Cape Town was injured while turning out for his club against Black Leopards in their final match. He sat out the practice match against Friends of Benjamin Mwaruwari on Saturday.

Nyandoro who has been in great form towards the end of the season for Mamelodi Sundowns in the ABSA premiership, is back in the squad after having been surprisingly omitted by the technical team, prbably for the reasons that there were many central midfielders in the team.

Nyandoro's presence will surely add more steel to the squad which now boasts many experienced central midfielders like Katsande, Nengomasha, versatile midfielder Karuru and Charlton Athletics of England's Bradley Pritchard.

Gumbo will be happy to have a choice of four seasoned central midfielders who will fight for the two slots available in the first eleven. The reality is that Gumbo can potential play with three of the four central midfielders, but can not play Nyandoro, Nengomasha and Katsande at the same time.

Two of the three players are hard-men/linkmen at the core, while Katsande is more versatile and can slot into the play-maker role. Gumbo has to be careful and not throw the three into the fray at the same time unless the Warriors were playing away.
