The flying champion Drogba leaves Chelsea for Shenhua on a high
of Africa's finest footballers of all time Didier Drogba has finally
put to rest speculation about his future after leaving Chelsea whom he
inspired to a Champions League triumph in Germany last month, after
signing for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for two and half years.

Speculation has always been that the Ivorian and Chelsea great was going
to wind down his career in China, and now time to speculate is over
after Drogba singed one of the richest soccer deals in modern day

"I considered all the offers I have received in the past few weeks, but
feel Shanghai Shenhua is the right move for me at this time.

"When Chelsea went to China last year, we had a great time and I met some amazing fans.

"I hope to help promote Chinese football around the world and further
improve the links between China and Africa," the 34 year Drogba said.

The Chinese are over the moon after capturing a player they have been
monitoring ever since it became apparent that Chelsea and Drogba were
not making headway in reaching agreement over the future of the star
striker. Club owner Zhu Jun decided to pounce.

"We have been wanting to sign Didier for a while and are very happy that it has finally happened.

"He is an incredible player, who has won so many
trophies in his career. We feel that his experience and ability will be a
very valuable asset to our squad.

"Shanghai is one of the most influential cities in the world and we are very excited to welcome Didier here,"Jun said.

Drogba, who is two time African Footballer of the Year winner, moved from Marseille to Stamford Bridge in 2004 in a deal worth 24m becoming Jose Mourinho's first major signing after he joined Chelsea as coach.

The big Drog will reportedly earn about 200 000 per week, translating to 800 000 per month, such a staggering amount!

At Shenhua Drogba will link up with his former Chelsea team mate Nicholas Anelka who has been at the club for the past season and has acted as Player/Coach until recently.
