Chansa moves to China's Henan Jianye

After speculation linking Isaac Chansa of Orlando Pirates to Johannesburg/SOWETO rivals Kaizer Chiefs, shocking news emanating from Parktown is that Bucs' Zambian midfielder Isaac Chansa has been sold to Henan Jianye FC of China's topflight football.

The media houses did not see that one coming and it was a deal that was kept under wraps by both the Chinese club and Orlando Pirates. Only as early as this morning Pirates Communications director Mick Modisane appeared to suggest that the club was looking at retaining the Zambian.

The club has announced the departure of Chansa on their website.

"Although the club would have liked to keep the Africa Cup of Nations
winner at the team for the new season, the player had already expressed
his intentions to move overseas for a fresh challenge and hence the club
ceded to the players request.

"On behalf of the Orlando Pirates family we would like to wish Isaac Chansa all the best at his new club."

Chansa had previously expressed his desire to move away from Pirates to a club where he could play more regularly than the limited opportunities he enjoyed at treble winning Pirates last season. He nonetheless played his role in helping the team retain the championship.

The Zambian midfielder won the Africa Cup of Nations 2012 title with his native in Equatorial Guinea/Gabon in January. Chansa like others in the Chipolopolo team certainly played no lesser role in the team's success.

Naturally being continental champion has its spin-offs, and like the rest of the Zambian players, Chansa' stock received a boost and a move to China, probably the fastest growing league (in terms of finances) in the world is a fair reward for the hard-working star.
