Gor continue romp under Serbian coach

Gor Mahia notched up their third win in four matches to leap frog to sixth on the table.

City Stars stunned home side Thika United as Mathare United were handsomely rewarded in Naivasha for their attacking inclination in Kenyan Premier League matches on Saturday.

Gor continued to canter under Serbian coach Zdravko Logarusic with a hard-earned 2-1 win over Western Stima at Mumias Sugar Sports Complex, moving from ninth to sixth on the table.

New signing Dan Sserunkuma (formerly with Nairobi City Stars) was quoted on the official Gor Mahia website as saying he had joined the club to score goals and he did not waste time, netting the second goal, and his seventh of the season, with an opportunistic strike.

Another new signing, Joseph Njuguna, had given K’Ogalo the lead early in the second half.

Battling Stima threatened to come back into the game after Frederick Shimonyo slotted home a penalty 10 minutes from time but Gor hang on for the three precious points.

Gor had earlier protested KPL’s decision to bar their newly acquired forward Itumbu Imbem from playing until he obtained a work permit.

"Imbem played for Tusker with a work permit acquired when he was an AFC Leopards player; why are KPL now preventing him from playing for us? This is double standards," fumed Gor Mahia secretary George Bwana.

Imbem was withdrawn from the team list for the match.

Got third win of season

Nairobi City Stars edged hosts Thika United 1-0 at Thika Municipal Stadium with George Mwangi scoring in the 10th minute from a rebound after Thika goalkeeper Joel Bataro failed to hold onto the ball.

Mathare United got only their third win of the season in a 3-1 thumping of Karuturi Sports at "Old Trafford".
