EURO 2012 Finals: Mouth watering Euro semis
Italy completed the picture for UEFA's Euro semi-finals after defeating England in a penalty shoot-out, following a goalless draw even after 120 minutes of open play in Kiev, Ukraine on Sunday night.

The Azurri came off better than their English counterparts, triumphing 4-2 on penalties, after Ashley Cole and Ashley Young both missed their spot-kicks in the penalty-drama at the end of the 120 minutes.

It was probably poetic justice that Italy qualified for the semis after they completely dominated the Three Lions through out the 120 minutes of open play, completing more than 800 passes in the match to England's less than 400 passes.

Italy created better scoring chances, and hit the upright pole twice during the match, and came agonisingly close to getting that goal that could or rather should have avoided the dreaded 'lottery' of penalties.

Germany will be waiting for Italy in the semi-finals and thus setting the stage for intriguing battles in the semi-finals of one of the world's best continental tournaments. Spain will clash with neighbours Portugal in a real battle of wits.

While on everyone's mouth is the prospect of a Spain v Germany final showdown, it is difficult to tell who will contest the final because Portugal and Italy are no-push-overs at all.

Portugal create a lot of dangerous scoring chances and with Cristiano Ronaldo on song in the last two matches, they can beat anyone in the world on their day. Italy appeared solid against a defensive English side, and they have a good number of match-winners, and not least of whom is Pirlo.

The Portugal v Spain match comes up first on Wednesday at 21h45 GMT and will be played in Donbass Arena, Donetsk, Ukraine, while the Germany v Italy match will follow on Thursday in National Stadium, Warsaw, Poland.
