Chippa writes fairytale by qualifying for PSL
From having been formed just two years ago and moving from Vodacom League to the ABSA Premier Soccer League for the 2012/2013 season within those two years, Chippa United have written an incredible story in South African football.

This was after Chippa knocked out Santos and qualified after beating the former PSL side 4-3 at Phillipi Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday afternoon in a PSL Play-off final match.

With the victory, Chippa finished the league with 8 points, having won twice and drawing twice against Thanda Royal Zulu and Santos. They become the 16th teamof the ABSA PSL for 2012/2013 season.

Philani Dlamini  (10th minute) and William Twala (26th minute) gave Chippa a 2-0 lead early on in the second half, before Santos showed great fighting spirit to level the scoreline 2-2 before half-time through goals from double scorer Eleazer Rodgers(38th minute) and Tyren Arendse (40th minute).

It was a scintillanting match with action swinging from side to side as the Cape sides matched each other pound for pound.

The sublime skills of the young Chippa players were to expose the Santos rearguard, and none othr than a very experienced Nasief Morris made a blunder under pressure when his intended back header to Demba Touray was intercepted in the 75th minute by the very alert Twala to give Chippa a 3-2 lead.

Disaster was to struck for Santos as the defence was turned inside out by the skillful and speedy Chippa youngsters. Chippa attacked the Santos goal and Mfundo Shumana got an easy through pass to easily beat Touray for Chippa's fourth.

Santos responded, with the man who has had a storming season in the PSL, Rodgers getting the chance to put a goal back from the penalty following a handball in the box. Even though his tame kick was saved by Goldman, a rebound was buried by Rodgers.

At  4-3, and with two minutes left, it was always going to be a mountain to climb for Santos who need nothing short of victory to survive.

Instead, it was Chippa who held on to their 4-3 lead to torch wild celebrations at Phillipi Stadium as the home team  made history by qualifying for the ABSA premiership where they will now dance with the big boys of local football.

What is touching about the story of Chippa is that it is a township club, with most players coming from shacks in the township. This is an amazing story worth celebrating in South Africa and indeed the world of football!

Well done Chippa! Welcome to the topflight football in South Africa! You have made yourselves and CapeTown very proud.
