Zim gets Angola, Ivory Coast v Senegal in AFCON Prelim draw
The Confederation of African Football conducted a preliminary draw for the final qualifying matches for the the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in Johannesburg near the OR Rambo International Airport on Thursday night, and COSAFA neighbours Zimbabwe and Angola were paired, while pick of the crop was the Ivory Coast versus Senegal match.

The event was attended by the Minister of Sports and Recreation in South Africa, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, COSAFA president and CAF vice-president Suketu Patel, Hichan El Amrani CAF secretary General and many other sporting diginitaries including the Local Organising Committee CEO Mvuso Mbebe and FA leaders from Afria. Coaches of national teams were also present.

The Caf Secretary General was assisted by South Africa's 1996 AFCON winning captain Neil Tovey and former Nigeria star striker Daniel Amokachi.

The pairing of teams was to be done from two pots, with Pot 1 comprising seeded teams. Seeded teams were Mali, Angola,Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia, Guinea, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Sudan and Burkina Faso.

Pot 2 consisted of the non-seeded teams like Zimbabwe, Malawi, Senegal, Mozambique, Libya, DR Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia, Cape Verde Islands, Sierra Leone, Togo, Central African Republic, Botswana, Niger and Liberia.

Zimbabwe was drawn against Southern African counterparts Angola in a battle that is likely to be decided either on away goals' rule or by penalties, if the rivalry between the two countries is anything to go by.

Fellow COSAFA nation Botswana was drawn first against seeded Mali in one of the intriguing contests set up by the preliminary draw.

West African powerhouses Ivory Coast and Senegal were so unlucky to draw each other. Senegal performed dismally at the last Afcon finals and this is their best chance to atone for their disappointing performances. But the Teranga Lions never dreamt that they will have to negotiate a hurdle against former champions and 2012 final contestants Ivory Coast .

Ivory Coast should have surely have grinned for getting tough opposition like Senegal, a team that boasts probably Africa's sharpest strike force in Newcastle's striking pair of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba. Ofcourse Ivory Coast have one of the best in the world in Didier Drogba.

Zimbabwe's Warriors have to be at their best to beat a dangerous team like Angola. The draw appears easy and fair for Zimbabwe, but it's not. Angola have always proved tough customers for the Warriors. Zambia could be easy prey for the Warriors than Angola.
