URA most likely to advances to Quarter final in Cecafa Kagame Cup

URA coach Alex Isabirye can now give his untested players some action at the on-going Cecafa Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam after qualifying for the quarterfinals with a group stage game to spare.

Yasin Mugabiís exploits in goal plus Sula Bagala, substitute Erisa Ssekisambu and Robert Ssentongoís second half goals handed Isabirye that license as the tax collectors came from behind to beat DR Congoís Vita Club 3-1 and maintain 100 percent record after two games.

URA play their final group game against Djiboutiís AS Ports tomorrow, with the quarterfinals starting on July 22. "It is good we have qualified early although they are some mistakes we made today," said Isabirye, "We now plan for our next match but at least now Iím sure we have qualified."

And as Isabirye had anticipated, the Congolese were first out of the blocks pounding URAís backline for most of the opening period, with eventual goal scorer Kazadi Mutombo rattling the crossbar with Mugabi inside 13 minutes.

Wasted chances
URA, who had Mugabi to thank for going into the break with a clean sheet, still made a few runs behind Vita backline, Moses Ali Feni and Bagala all being through to goal but wasting their opportunities.

And Vita looked to punish them after recess as they dominated early exchanges, a sweeping move catching URA on the counter and Mutombo beating Mugabi from close range Ė the first time the shot-stopper was evaded in the tournament - for a 61st minute lead.

That could have been energy sapping for any side but the taxmen, who are looking to win their first ever Cecafa championship, instead bounced back in style five minutes later when Kasule teed up Bagala to atone for his first half miss.

Another move that saw Masaba volley back a cross into debutant Ssekisambuís way for the striker to smash it into the top corner for URAís second on 79 minutes.

Ssentongo made it 3-1 on 89 minutes with his first of the campaign after an inter-play with Ssekisambu to leave a team that was sent packing after the group stage in 2010 looking at the last eight after just two games.
