Rusike/Cosmos dispute threatens Chiefs move?

Matthew Rusike's proposed move to South Africa's ABSA premiership glamour boys Kaizer Chiefs should have been confirmed by now if it wasn't for the contractual dispute between the player and Jomo Cosmos, the player he played for during the 2011/2012 season.

Chiefs have confirmed that they are at an advanced stage in their pursuit of Rusike's signature bu that the only hiccup is the contractual dispute the player has with Cosmos.

"Kaizer Chiefs confirms is in the process of acquiring the services of Matthew Rusike having earlier declared interest in the young striker who played for Jomo Cosmos during the 2011/2012 season.

"The player is currently with Kaizer Chiefs while negotiations with Jomo
Cosmos are on-going. Chiefs will confirm the signature once the dispute
between the player and Jomo Cosmos is settled," read the full statement on Amakhosi's website.

Rusike's understanding is that his contract with Ezenkosi, as Cosmos are known, expired at the end of last season, while Cosmos appears to have a different view of the situation.

"I believe I'm a free agent," that is all Rusike was prepared to tell Kick-Off.com when they asked the player. He apparently refused to reveal more since the parties are trying to resolve the issue amicably.

It appears that Cosmos regard Rusike as still belonging to  the club and expected him to return for pre-season despite the club not listing him as one of the squad members for their National First Division campaign in 2012/2013 season.

"The last time I spoke to Mr. (Jomo) Sono we were waiting for Rusike
to report for pre-season and he didn't report," Lucky Mhlathe, Cosmos' Communications Manager attempted to explain.

"So since then we haven't had a sit down with Mr. Sono to find out
what's going on between Rusike and Cosmos you know what I mean. He
(Sono) is dealing personally with the issue, because he deals with the
players' contracts. I think by today or tomorrow he will call a meeting
to let us know what's happening.

From the above revelations, three things are clear. The first reality is that Kaizer Chiefs have agreed on terms with the player to join Amakhosi and are ready to sign Rusike, while one thing stands in the way of confirming this.

The second reality is that there is definitely a contractual dispute between Rusike's camp and Cosmos regarding the two parties' understanding of the status of their 'subsisting' relationship or the non-existence thereof, depending on the angle one views the dispute.

Thirdly, it is also clear that both parties are willing to resolve the matter amicably, and in all likelihood, Rusike and Cosmos will come to an understanding soon, paving the way for the player to be confirmed as a Kaizer Chiefs new signing.
