Mushekwi off for Germany Bundesliga trials

Mushekwi off for Germany Bundesliga trials
Mamelodi Sundowns' star striker Nyasha Mushekwi will be leaving South Africa tonight for trials with newly promoted Germany Bundesliga club Greuther Furth.

The news of the striker's impending Germany move was broken by the club's website.

"Mamelodi Sundowns top striker, Nyasha Mushekwi will be jetting off to
German club, SpVgg Greuther Furth tonight after the German club
fulfilled the requirements that Sundowns had sought before allowing the
player to leave for assessment.

"The German club will go over the Zimbabwean hit-man over the next few days, and Mushekwi will return to South Africa on Sunday.

"Sundowns had earlier released a statement, in which it was stated
clearly that the club would not stand in the player’s way, should all
arrangements be agreed upon by all parties involved," the club statement read.

The club's spokesperson Kabelo Mosito  now believes that the big Zimbabwe-born striker's destiny is now in his own hands. Earlier, Sundowns had problems with releasing the player for a trial period, insisting that the Germany topflight club makes an offer for the player.

“We are obviously happy that this matter could be resolved, and Nyasha’s future is firmly in his own hands,” Mosito said.

A figure amounting to R8 million has branded as the possible initial offer made by Greuther Furth for Mushekwi, but that amount sounds quite below Sundowns' valuation of the player, who is believed to be worth between R15-20 million.

Greuther Furth were recently promoted into the Bundesliga and are looking at reinforcing their squad ahead of the season which kicks-off towards August month-end. Mushekwi with his big frame, physical strength and aerial ability is believed to fit the Bundesliga bill.

Mushekwi is a senior national team player for Zimbabwe.

He arrived in the ABSA premiership in South Africa two seasons ago, and was the second best scorer in the league, with 14 goals, just a goal shy of eventual Golden Boot winner compatriot Knowledge Musona who also plies his trade in Germany with TSG Hoffenheim, but is on loan at another Bundesliga side Augsburg for the 2012/2013 season.

Last season, Mushekwi was a slight distance from Golden Boot winner Siyabonga Nomvete, finishing with about 9 goals, but was voted Nedbank Player of the Tournament after his record 12 goals in the tournament.
