Chiefs beat Downs to remain top

Nkhatha celebrates a goal with team mate on Wednesday
Kaizer Chiefs have managed to bounce back from some disappointing events in their camp and cup competitions to record two crucial victories in their first two ABSA premiership matches, with the second, a 2-1 victor over Mamelodi Sundowns last night, a sweet revenge.

Amakhosi scored through birthday boy Siyabonga Nkosi in the 52nd minute, before chief striker Kingston Nkhatha added a second from a Nkosi assist in the 58th minute.

Sundowns had taught Chiefs a football lesson which will surely inspire them for the rest of the season, after walloping them 4-1 in an MTN quarter-final match two weeks ago.

Amakhosi needed a good response to such a humiliation, and they emphatically did so last weekend with a record-breaking 6-0 away win over Amazulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with shadow striker Bernard Parker romping to four goals, with Nkosi and Nkhatha weighing in with a goal apiece.

Now Nkosi and Nkhatha scored their second goals in as many league matches.

Chiefs meanwhile, remain the early pace-setters in the ABSA league, after Supersport and Orlando Pirates played out to a 0-0 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Free State Stars  are the second team with a 100% record so far in the PSL, after they heaped more woes on Chippa United coach Manqoba Mnqgithi by beating the Chilli Boys 2-1 in Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium, resulting in the sacking of the Chippa coach.

Stars are home to former Jomo Cosmos Zimbabwean striker Taonga Dondo, who has featured prominently in the starting line-up for the past two games.

Teams on four points after two matches include Maritzburg United, Black Leopards, Orlando Pirates and  new boys AmaTuks.
