Shock rise for Warriors in Fifa Rankings!
Zimbabwe were one of the surprise big movers in the FIFA Coca-Cola World Rankings released on Wednesday, when they moved eight-places to jump to position 98 from a previous 106 ranking.

The Warriors garnered 30 points for the period under review, jumping from 328 points to 358 points, porbably because they played a highly ranked Zambian outfit who have now moved to position 42 on Fifa rankings, thanks to their 2-1 home defeat of Zimbabwe, and despite their loss to South Korea.

What is surprising about the latest position of the Zimbabwe senior national soccer team, the Warriors is the fact that the team was inactive on the actual day reserved for Fifa friendly matches, the 15th August, and only played Zambia on 8th August.

The developmental Warriors squad was beaten 2-1 by an equally developmental Chipolopolo side in Ndola on 8 August, further raising questions as to how Fifa arrived at the 98th ranking for the Warriors. Not that Rahman Gumbo’s boys and the rest of Warriors’ fans will be too concerned about that.

It is possible that results of teams above Zimbabwe went in favour of the Warriors, who were playing away from home, and played fairly well, considering that the developmental squad virtually had no time to train together before facing off the Zambians.

Zimbabwe’s next opponents have doing everything right administratively and also on the field of play. They have moved five places to now sit on 80th position with 433 points.

Cote d’Ivoire remain Africa’s highest ranked team, but there were impressive gains for Mali and Libya who moved to positions 32 and 33 after amassing 697 and 666 points respectively.

Spain remain kings of world football in pole position on the rankings, followed by Germany in second position, but Brazil are shocked by their ranking outside the top 10 as they sit on 12th ranking.
