Uganda's Priests pray for national team

Kibiri Catholic Parish priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Mukasa Nkeera took minutes off at the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) memorial service to pray for the national soccer team. The Cranes visit Zambia in the first leg of the 2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers on Saturday

."It is a very noble deed to remember our dead and most important to pray for them," said Nkeera, as he led the service to pray for the souls of Uspa’s departed comrades.

"This day provides us a unique opportunity to remember the special qualities which we so much loved and appreciated in our loved ones’ personalities and life."

Uspa held the first memorial service in 2001 following the death, in a road accident, of their executive members Leo Kabunga, Simon Peter Ekarot, Kenneth Matovu and Francis Batte Junior.

Since then, the sports scribes’ body, holds a memorial service annually. Yesterday, they prayed for the souls of their departed 27 members.

"This year’s memorial service is held when the country is celebrating the victory of its son Stephen kiprotich. So Ugandans should also pray for the Cranes as well," said Nkeera.

The function was held at Christ the King Church in Kampala.
