Malajila scores, now 2nd on Scorers' chart

Malajila scored in Maritzburg"s 2-2 away draw at Black Leopards on Tuesday night
Zimbabwean-born Cuthbert Malajila has continued from where he left last season and has now moved to second spot on the ABSA Premier Soccer League's Top Goal scorer's chart behind Bernard Parker after netting a beauty in Maritzburg United's 2-2 draw away at Black Leopards.

Malajila, who was a thorn in the defenders' flesh last season when he joined Maritzburg during the second half of the season, has now scored three times, but is four goals behind Kaizer Chiefs' on fire striker Parker who scored a double against Bidvest Wits on Monday to move to seven goals.

Malajila's previously scored a double and failed to find the net in the other three matches, but provided assist to Delron Buckley when he scored two goals against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier in the season.

The former Dynamos striker is one player that Zimbabwe national team coach Rahman Gumbo is itching to have his name cleared by the Ethics Committee so he can be available for selection.

The Maritzburg attacker is one of Zimbabwe's most intelligent players who contributes immensely to a match. If he does not score goals, he creates goals, or puts defenders under so much pressure that it prevents them from building an attack from the back.

It is understandable that suspended Zimbabwe coach Norman Mapeza preferred to call Malajila into the national team even when he was club-less after running away from armed conflict in Libya.

On 3 goals Malajila is joined by a very trusted goal scorer Calvin Kadi who voluntarily returned home after a very successful stint in Greece. The Bidvest Wits man is one striker whom Gordon Igesund needs at Bafana Bafana. Katlego Mashego and Rodney Magalela are also tied at 3 goals.

Here is the list of Zimbabwe-born top scorers in the ABSA premiership:

Cuthbert Malajila (Maritzburg United)       3
Brian Amidu (Black Leopards)                   2
Kingston Nkatha  (Kaizer Chiefs)              2
Khama Billiat (Ajax Cape Town)                 1
Takesure Chinyama (Orlando Pirates)     1
Nyasha Mushekwi (Mamelodi Sundowns)1
