Tusker moves to top of KPL log

Gor Mahia returned to the top of the Tusker Premier League after beating champions Tusker 1-0 at the City Stadium on Sunday.

Rangers came from two goals down to beat Western Stima 3-2 in Kakamega as Ulinzi Stars and Thika United drew 1-1 in Nakuru while the game between Chemelil and Muhoroni Youth was rained off after just 18 minutes of play.

In Kakamega, Kevin Oluoch put Stima ahead in the 17th minute and Wesley Kemboi added another two minutes later before a great comeback by Rangers.

Evans Ogutu scored a double in the 74th and 82nd minutes and Eric Muranda converted from the spot in the 87th minute after Ken Mandela had been fouled in the box.

Thika United hold Ulinzi

In Nakuru, Ken Aswani’s goal after two minutes of play had put Thika ahead but the towering Ulinzi defender James Mulinge cancelled the lead when he scored his fifth goal of the season through a penalty 15 minutes into the match.

But it was at City Stadium where all focus was.

Dangerman Dan Sserunkuma scored the only goal of the match with a thunderous shot 13th minute that Tusker goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch pushed into his own net.

The game was a balanced affair, with Tusker striker Kenneth Wendo’s 32nd minute shot going straight to goalkeeper Jerim Onyango as Tusker tried to stamp their authority.

Tusker coach Robert Matano brought on Joshua Oyoo for Joseph Emeka and Gor coach Zdravko Logarusic responded by pulling out Donald Mosoti for David Owino. The first half ended with Gor 1-0 up.

In the second-half, Gor largely defended and rarely made forays in the Tusker penalty area and when referee Nassur Doka blew the final whistle, the close to 7,000 Gor fans went on a frenzy as K’Ogalo rose to the top of the league table with 55 points.
