DR Congo hold Ghana, Mali top Group B

Mbokani scored his side"s equaliser in DR Congo and Ghana"s 2-2 draw.
Poetic justice was done at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Sunday night when impressive DR Congo outfit crawled back from a 2-0 deficit to deservedly earn a point in a pulsating Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2013 finals Group B match, after drawing 2-2 with Ghana.

The Congolese, who had to deal with threats of resignation by coach Claude Le Roy, were the first ones to settle down in an exciting First Half which they thoroughly controlled.

DR Congo were unlucky to fall back 1-0 going into half time when out of nowhere, the Black Stars found the opener, courtesy of a sliding connection made by Agyemang Badu in the 40th minute.

Immediately after the second half, Ghana piled on the pressure and were immediately rewarded when Kwadoh Asamoah headed in a corner in the 49th minute on the near post to leave the Congolese shell-shocked.

Trailing 0-2, DR Congo to their credit continued to play their normal impressive attacking football full of flair, and they were rewarded, when they pulled one back after a brilliant move which was finished off by Tresor Mputu Mabi who cleverly side footed his effort beyond the reach of Dauda in the 53rd minute.

A few minutes later in the 69th minute, DR Congo found the much needed equaliser after Dieumerci Mbokani was pulled down by Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko. Mbokani himself rose to easily beat Dauda to leave the match tied 2-2.

Meanwhile Seydou Keita rescued the AFCON 2013 from witnessing a fourth draw, by scoring a goal six minutes from time to hand Mali an undeserved maximum points against an otherwise impressive Niger side whose industry deserved nothing less than a point.

Mali become the first team to bag three points and now lead Group B with three points, and a goal difference, while DR Congo and Ghana are tied in second, and poor Niger find themselves anchoring the group.
