Ghana break Cape Verde hearts

Cape Verde players understably uncontrollable after theie 0-2 loss to Ghana

Ghana managed to hold off pressure from a spirited Cape Verde who literally outplayed their more illustrious opponents, to win 2-0 and progress to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in a quarter-final match played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night.

The man to break the Blue Sharks' hearts is Mohamed Wakaso. He first scored in the 53rd minute, before killing of the Cape Verde spirit in the 95th minute, straight from a Cape Verde corner kick. The keeper had joined team mates in search of a Blue Sharks equaliser.

Cape Verde literally stayed in the Black Stars's half, dominating and taking shots at goal in enterprising passion, but were let down by wayward shooting or found Man-of-the-match Dauda, who made numerous saves, and was clearly the difference between a Ghanaian victory or loss.

Without the brilliance of Dauda it is evident to everybody who watched the match to realise that Ghana would have lost the match.

Ghana's first goal came from a penalty after Asamoah Gyan was adjudged to have been fouled in the box, and Wakaso converted.

When the Blue Sharks camped in the Black Stars' half, they win a corner, and Varzinho joined his tea mates in search of an equaliser, but a clearance from the corner saw an unmarked Wakaso make a sprint to slot into an open goal.

Dauda deservedly walked away with Man of the match award because he saved Ghana today. The Black Stars will have to do better if they are to go as far as the final. Cape Verde exposed them terribly today. Cape Verde deserved to win this match, if truth be told.
