Warriors squad for Egypt tie revealed
The Zimbabwe national soccer team Warriors coach Klaus Dieter Pagels announced a team expected to do duty for the country against the Pharaohs of Egypt on 26 March this year in a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier to be played in Alexandria.

Pages' team is barely changed from the team that labored to a 2-1 home victory in friendly match against minnows and neighbours Botswana last month. The only notable absentee from that squad is Moroka Swallows defender Gilbert Mapemba.

The rest of the squad including the players who did not manage to arrive for the camp in that low key friendly match like Roderick Mutuma and Quincy Antipas have been included in the final 18 named players.

There will always be question marks around the choice of some players, considering the lack of fitness for the bulk of the squad. Most of the players have either been on off-season and lack fitness, or they have been on the sidelines at their respective foreign clubs.

Surprisingly, the young players have been preferred for such a demanding encounter at the expense of their more illustrious brothers who have been in better form for their foreign clubs.

The likes of Takesure Chinyama who scored an amazing five goals in just two CAF Champions League matches has been ignored. A leading top goal scorer in the ABSA premiership Cuthbert Malajila has been ignored.

In-form Charlton Athletics attacking midfielder Bradley Pritchard in the English Championships is not in the squad. Also out of the squad are two very much inform defenders, namely, Carlington Nyadombo of Amazulu in South Africa and Costa Nhamoinesu of Polish Ekstraklasa side Zaglebie Lubin. Vusa Nyoni has not been named in the squad despite doing well for Mons in the Belgian Jupiler League week in and week out. Kingston Nkatha should be kicking his heels for being omitted once again.

Matthew Rusike retains his wide smile after being selected again ahead of his more experienced fellow striker at Kaizer Chiefs Nkatha. There is s surprise space for Lincoln Zvasiya who is not even making the Chiefs final 18 these days ever since the return of Morgan Gould from a long injury.

Willard Katsande and Esrom Nyandoro are conspicuous by their absence despite their good league form in South Africa. Reigning Zimbabwe Footballer of the year Denver Mukamba, now at Bidvest Wits in South Africa, and Brian Abbas Amidu who scored four goals for Black Leopards in their Nedbank triumph over amateur side Cape Town All Stars midweek last week has been included in the squad.

Europe-based Mike Temwanjira who plays for FC Vaslui in Romania, who recently returned to action for his club and appeared in the 82nd minute in his club's away 2-1 loss to Pandurii Tārgu Jiu last night has not found space in Pagels' squad.
