Injuries woes, shocking selections continue for Warriors

Sithole dribbles past Sundowns" Shongwe in Sunday"s Tshwane derby won 1-0 by Supersport
The Zimbabwe senior men national soccer team continues to face injury woes ahead of their crunchy Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt away in Alexandria on 26 March 2013, with news that yet another striker, Simbarashe Sithole could miss the game following an injury this weekend.

Sithole, Supersport United's main striker, was stretchered off during the Tshwane derby on Sunday after suffering what looked like a muscle injury, which is likely to rule him out for the March 26 encounter. His club beat his former club Sundowns 1-0 following a stunning long range volley from Senegalese defender Mor Diouf in the 88th minute.

A week earlier, Warriors coach Klaus Dieter Pagels was forced to replace Kaizer Chiefs striker Matthew Rusike with his cousin Tafadzwa Rusike of Ajax Cape Town. Rusike was injured just a few minutes into the Chippa United/Kaizr Chiefs midweek tie. His replacement was as shocking as it is inappropriate.

Tafadzwa has been struggling for game time under new Ajax coach and was recently criticised in the media, inappropriately though, for not taking his chances when he was given game time.

Pagels continues to surprise many soccer fans, not only Zimbabwean fans, but all fans across Africa by ignoring the obvious better talent and more established names in Zimbabwean football and opting for untested rookies.

The problem is not much about the selected players being rookies. It is the fact that most of them are struggling to pin down first team spaces at their foreign clubs and are therefore match unfit, while the not so old players who are in better shape and better form are ignored all in the name of a rebuilding exercise, done by an interim coach whose future is not guaranteed beyond June.

Yet another Zimbabwean may be sidelined for an unspecified period. Kingston Nkatha was injured in the 0-0 SOWETO derby featuring Africa's most decorated and supported clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Pagels may be forced to pick the likes of Cuthbert Malajila, Terrence Mandaza (both of Maritzburg United in South Africa) or back from injury Mike Temwanjira of FC Vaslui who played the entire 90 minutes in his club's 1-1 home draw against Gloria Bistrita last night.
