Mane joins Liverpool from Southampton

Sadio Mane has moved to Liverpool from Southampton ahead of the 2016/2017 season
Reports from England indicate that Southampton striker Sadio Mane has completed his much speculated move from Southampton to Liverpool, after going through successful medicals at Anfield in the past week.

The Senegalese forward, who was sold to Southampton by Salzburg of Austria in 2014, has become Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp's third signing during this off-season break after the transfers of Loris Karius and Mane's fellow African Joel Matip from Cameroon. Mane's move cost Liverpool 34m.

Klopp has followed Mane's progress ever since the Senegalese's blistering performance during his country's participation at the 2012 Olympics.

"Since I came here I have spoken to the staff a lot about him and have always felt he could be a very good signing for us," Klopp told the Liverpool website.

At Anfield, Mane will have his work cut out. In order to play regularly he will have to compete with his new club's forwards such as England international striker Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke.

Mane is one of the many African players or at least players of African origin who have set the English premiership ablaze in the past few seasons. The hearty performances of former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba are well documented. Then there is new Tottenham Hotspurs' Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama who shone brightly at Southampton last season. Ghanaian attacking midfielder Andre Ayew was oustanding for Swansea last season after moving from French giants Maerseille.
