Zimbabwe midfielder Vusumuzi Nyoni has changed clubs in Belgium. He has left Cercle Brugge where he has been an important player for the club since 2006. He was bought by Germinal Beerschot, who signed the player on 25 August.
Nyoni's first league match for his new employers in the Pro League was against struggling Charleroi in a 1-0 victory for his new club. Nyoni was introduced as a second half substitute. Beerschot are also struggling in the Pro League, and their victory on Saturday was their first in six matches this season.
Beerschot have so far managed only 5 points in 6 matches, and sit 4th from bottom, ahead of Charleroi only on better goal difference.
The former Highlanders player has signed a 3-year contract with Beerschot, and financial details of the deal where not available at the time of writing.
Nyoni arrived at Cercle Brugge in 2006, with Warriors teammate Honour Gombami. He made 100 appearances for Cercle, for whom he ended up playing on the left back after starting as an attacking left-sided midfielder upon his arrival in 2006.
Last season, Nyoni featured in 23 matches, mostly from the left-back position and scored 3 goals, a decent scoring rate for a defender. His compatriot Honour Gombami spent much of the season on the sidelines after picking up a terrible injury early last season.
Nyoni has not been very fortunate with national team call-ups, and must have been pleased with his call to the Warriors squad for the high-profile friendly against Brazil on 2 June this year. Nyoni was introduced in the second half, and played fairly well.
The player will hope that his new club will pick up good form and stay in the Pro League when the end of the season comes.
