Musona, Rusike score as Chiefs, Ajax win

Musona is on fire for Chiefs, scored against Celtic on Saturday night

Knowledge Musona is fast becoming not only a play-maker, but a reliable goal scorer for Kaizer Chiefs. The 20 year-old scored a priceless goal in his team's 1-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic.

Musona connected a Siphiwe Tshabala cross from the left in the 24th minute to give Chiefs all the three points at home in a league match played at Rand Stadium on Saturday night.

The young Zimbabwean international has been scoring regularly for Amakhosi this season and has been in such irressistible form that his coach could not resist telling the truth that Musona is "Chief's best".

“Musona was on the bench for almost all the games last season because he was new here and [I] didn’t want to burn him out. I was protecting him as it was his first year in a foreign country. But he is now our best striker and will play all the games," Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic said after the match.

Musona has now scored four goals in the MTN 8 competition and the league so far this season. The Zimbabwean also scored in his country's 1-1 away draw in Monrovia against Liberia in an African Nations Cup qualifying match.

The Amakhosi talisman has now scored an average of a goal in each of the 5 matches he has played this season.

His rich vein of form has led some soccer greats in South Africa like former Bafana Bafana striker Philemon Masinga to dub Musona the "next big thing" in South African soccer.

Vermezovic is well aware of the likelihood that some vultures might be circling around his star player already given his arrival with a bang in South Africa last year, and the great form he is showing this season.

“I don’t want to lose him, and so he must play all the games, just like I also want all the other youngsters to also play. I have different types of strikers in the team and we will use them accordingly,” Vermezovic added.

There are already rumours that some European scouts have identified Musona as their target to take to their European teams in the near future.

Musona caught the eye of many scouts when he starred for Zimbabwe in a friendly match against Brazil on June 2 this year. The "Smiling Assasin" terrorised the Brazillian defence in a first half in which he was clearly the best player on view of the two sets of players.

Meanwhile, Ajax Cape Town continued with their 100% record to the start of the PSL season in South Africa by winning their 3rd match in a row. They beat Platinum Stars 2-0 in Cape Town.

Another Zimbabwean, midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike was on fire for the Urban Warriors and scored Ajax's second goal.
