Eto-o scored three goals and set up the other one in Inter Milan"s 4-0 routing of Bremen

Samuel Eto'o was the toast of the Champions League action on a Thursday night when his hattrick illuminated the night of great attacking flair at the San Siro.

The Cameroonian Eto'o scored three times for European defending champions Inter Milan in their 4-0 routing of visiting Werder Bremen last night. The former Barcelona player was on song for Raphael Benitez' men as they dismantled hapless Bremen in a spell of less than 15 minutes in a first half action that was rich in quality and purpose.

Inter Milan opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Man-of-the-Match Eto'o pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the 18-area. The three times African Footballer of the year returned to haunt the Germany side in the 27th minute to register Inter's second goal.

In the 34th minute, Eto'o weaved his magic as he spectacularly picked up Dutch star Wesley Sneijder who obliged with a cheeky lob over advancing Tim Wiese. The Inter gunman, playing in a central attacking role in the absence of Diego Milito, completed his hattrick in the 81st minute.

In Spain, former European champions Manchester United were in danger of completing another 90 barren minutes in the Champions League following their disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Rangers, and they needed Javier Hernandez to rescue them with a late goal to give them a win at Valencia.

The Mexican scored a price-less 85th minute goal to give the Red Devils a 1-0 win over hosts Valencia.

In Group D, Barcelona laboured to a 1-1 draw at Rubin Kazan. Barca welcomed wonder kid Lionel Messi from injury. The home team went ahead through a penalty in the first half which their skipper Christian Noboa converted.

The Spanish giants had to rally from behind and were fortunate to get a penalty of their own in the 60th minute to earn a hard fought draw at bougey side Kazan. The Russian champions defeated Barca 2-1 at Nou Camp last season. David Villa converted the penalty.
