The Confederation of Southern African Football (COSAFA) will this year shift the base of the Under 20 tournament from its traditional venues in South Africa to new territory, Gaborone, the capital of Botswana.

In South Africa, the Metropolitan sponsored COSAFA Under 20 tourney has been played at various venues such as Mpumalanga's Mbombela Stadium, two years ago, and last year's edition was held at Dobsonville Stadium.

COSAFA, who organises the tournament together with the sponsors, have announced that the regional youth tournament will run between December 3-12 in Gaborone.

The draw for the participating teams will be held at a venue in Gaborone next week, and the groupings for this year's competition will be known after the draw.

Under 20 competitions in Southern Africa are famed for having provided the platform to shine for exciting talent in the region in the past.

Players such as Christopher Katongo came to the limelight through the competition. The same goes for the likes of Tinashe Nengomashe of Kaizer Chiefs, Excellent Walaza whose progress has not been as expected.

Recently the Under 20 tourney is remembered for having churned out current Kaizer Chiefs sensation Knowledge Musona, Kermit Erasmus of Supersport United and rock solid Moroka Swallows defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele of Moroka Swallows, a player with great leadership potential.

Zambia are the defending champions of the COSAFA Under 20 competition, after beating South Africa 1-0 in the final last year.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe who had earlier this year announced the withdrawal of all its youth teams from continental, world and regional competitions have since reversed its decision and will now field teams for the COSAFA Under 20 tourney.

The country's new and under-fire soccer mother body, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has added that the country's Under 23 team will participate in the All-Africa-Games to be hosted by Mozambique next year.
