Champions league final decided...so is Conf Cup top four

[Posted 18 Oct 2010]

CAF Champions League final spots and Conf semi-final spots have been decided

Tunisian giants Esperance reached the Champions League final on Sunday following their victory in Rades on an away goals rule at the expense of Africa's club of the millenium, Al Ahly of Egypt.

Esperance scored a priceless goal through Nigerian-born striker Michael Eneramo to beat Al Ahly 1-0 in the 2nd leg of a lively semi-final contest.

The Egyptians won the reverse fixture 2-1 in Cairo two weeks ago. Following the 1-0 victory by the Tunisians, the away goal's rule had to now kick-in, and Esperance emerged victors.

It was a very disheartening experience for Al Ahly to come so close yet so far. The Egyptian club has struggled in the Champions league in the past two years.

Esperance will now meet defending champions TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who forced a crucial 0-0 against JS Kabylie of Algeria in Tizi Ouzou on Saturday to qualify for the final.

The Congolese defended a 3-1 victory achieved in Lubumbashi against the same opponents to emerge 3-1 victors, and have now set up an interesting duel with Esperance.

Meanwhile, the Caf: Confederation Cup semi-finals ties have been decided following the conclusion of the matches on Sunday.

Al-Ittihad of Libya took the remaining semi-final spot after beating Djoliba of Mali 2-0 in Tripoli on Saturday. The Libyans now join Group A leaders Al-Hilal of Sudan who finished with 13 points following a credible 0-0 draw at AS FAN.

Al Hilal will now face CS Csfaxien in the first semi-final, while FUS Rabat will battle it out with Al-Ittihad in the second semi-final match.

Complete Results of the Confederations Cup Groups A and B matches

Haras 1-1 Zanaco

FUS Rabat 2-1 CS Csfaxien

Al-Ittihad 2-0 Djoliba

AS FAN 0-0 Al Hilal
