Dynamos, resurgent Highlanders win

Benjamin Marere scored Dynamos" solitary goal in his club"s 1-0 win over Monoz

The 2007 Zimbabwean Champions Dynamos continued to make log leaders Motor Action feel the heat at the top of the log with a work-man like victory over a resurgent Monomotapa in a league match played at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday night.

Attacking midfielder Benjamin Marere is known for his ability to score crucial goals, and on Wednesday night, he proved to be a match winner of note with a priceless 47th minute strike which broke the hearts of the battling Monomotapa.

Monoz, the 2008 champions, gave a good account of their fighting spirit by ensuring that Dynamos did not collect the maximum points on a silver platter. The galant Monoz fighters matched DeMbare pound for pound, skill for skill and quality for quality in every department.

Taurai Mangwiro's boys were unfortunate to walk out of Rufaro with nothing to show for their brilliance and industry. But that is the nature of the sport, if you do not take your chances, you will be punished for it.

For Dynamos, walking away with all three points was thanks to the great form of their gloves man, Washington Arubi, who made a number of breath-taking saves to deny Monoz a well-deserved goal.

Dynamos have managed to maintain the 6 point-gap between themselves and the Mighty Bulls, with two games in hand. Those games include their abandoned league match against Highlanders, which most neutrals expect to be awarded to Dynamos.

Highlanders fans have been blamed for the abandonment of the league match between Bosso and DeMbare, but the PSL Disciplinary Committee will have a last say on the matter.

Motor Action continue to lead log standings with 52 points from 23 games, and Dynamos sit on 2nd place with 46 points from 21 matches.

The resurgence of Monomotapa reminds many Zimbabweans of the year 2008, when Monoz, then under Norman Mapeza's guidance, bounced back from a 4-match losing streak to notch victory after victory, leading to them being crowned champions that year.

Meanwhile, another team which has hit a purple patch, Highlanders, continued with their revival under youthful coach Mkhupali Masuku. Bosso soundly beat visiting Hwange 3-1 at Barbourfields on Wednesday night.

Tshilamoya scored their goals through midfielder Menard Mupera, defender Zephaniah Ngodzo and Protash Kabwe who scored in the 20th, 30th and 47th minutes respectively. David Boriwondo scored Chipangano's consolation in the 69th minute.

Bosso have now accumulated 37 points from 22 matches.

Ever since taking over the reigns from Egyptian coach Mohamed Fathi, Masuku has now won 5 games on the trot, collecting all the possible 15 points. Bosso have now replaced CAPS United on 4th place.

Makekepe were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Lengthens on Sunday, leaving them lying on 5th place now with 36 points. After going through a 5 match un-beaten run, Moses Chunga has had to a endure a single loss and two draws in CAPS' last four matches.
