Jose Mourinho qualified Real Madrid to the last 16 with a 2-2 draw at AC Milan

Giants of world football, Real Madid of Spain, English champions Chelsea and last year losing Champions League finalists Bayern Munich of Germany made sweet passages to the last 16 following Champions league action on Wednesday night.

Real Madrid earned a crucial 2-2 draw at the San Siro against AC Milan. The Spanish giants scored through Argentinian Gonzalo Higuain at the stroke of half time, before Milan rallied to even take a lead when substitute Filippo Inzaghi scored twice within 10 minutes in the second half.

Real had to dig deep to score a last gasp goal to secure a draw and with it a passage into the last 16 with two matches to play.

It was also a substitute Pedro Leon who gave Real a much needed point in the 4th minute of injury time to leave Jose Mourinho a relieved man on his first visit to the San Siro following back to back titles with Inter Milan after which he moved to Spain to join Real.

Chelsea and Bayern enjoyed wins by three and four goal margins respectively to join Real Madrid in the last 16. The English champions beat Spartak Moscow 4-1 to extend their lead in Group F by six points. Bayern walloped CFR Cluj in Group E away from home to maintain a 100% record in the competition.

In other Champions League matches played during midweek, Tottenham Hotspurs taught Inter Milan a footballing lesson by beating them 3-1 at White Hart lane.

The toast of the night at White Hart Lane was  midfielder Gareth Bale. The England star tore defending champions Inter Milan into shreds with sublime attacking skills.

Bale was in dominant mood, and combined with Luka Modric to allow Rafael van der Vaart to score the opener in the 18th minute. Bale then created Peter Crouch's 61st minute goal , before one of his mazy runs helped Roman Pavlyuchenko to seal a magnificent win with the last goal of the match in the 89th minute.

Samuel Eto'o, who has had an icnredible goal scoring record for Inter this season, scored the defending champions' consolation in the 81st minute.

The win took Spurs level on points with defending champions Inter who also have 7 points in Group A.
