Davide Somma has received a call to Bafana Bafana team

England-based Davide Somma has received a call-up to the national soccer team and was named in a squad of 23 players named by Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane to face USA in the Nelson Mandela Challenge Cup on Wednesday night.

The Leeds striker has been in irrestible form in the Championship in England, scoring six times in seven starts this season. Such a performance has not gone unnoticed by national selectors and Somma has duly received a call.

Mosimane is careful not to put pressure on the Leeds striker and has stated that the outing on Wedneday is meant to be just an introduction for Somma to the Bafana set-up for the 25-year old striker.

ďItís important to give him a chance to see what he is made of, but at the same time I donít want to put him under pressure and put it to him that he is the answer to our scoring problems.

"I just want to give him a chance to play for South Africa and increase our pool of strikers. He has been scoring in almost every match so we have to bring him in and I hope it works out for him,Ē  Mosimane said.

The Bafana coach has also recalled to the Bafana fold Mamelodi Sundowns' in-form midfielder Matthew Pattison. The former Newcastle star has been a consistent performer in the Premier Soccer League for more than a year now.

Also recalled are defenders Bevan Fransman of Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel, Keegan Ritchie of Moroka Swallows and young Siyanda Xulu of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Mandela Challenge is scheduled to kick-off at 21h30 due to a dual broadcast with ESPN in the USA.
