CAF 2011 inter-club fixtures were released on Monday 20 December

The Confederation of African Football released fixtures for the two continental inter-club competitions, the Orange Champions League and Orange Confederations Cup, for the year 2011.

The draw was held at CAF headquarters in Cairo on Monday 20 December.

55 clubs from 43 CAF member states will compete in the Champions league, while 52 clubs will participate in the Confederations Cup. The preliminary rounds for the two competitions are set to kick-off on the weekend of January,  28,29 and 30.

CAF recently released a list of 12 countries eligible to field two teams in the inter-club competitions for 2011.

Zimbabwean and Angolan clubs have done the Southern Africa region proud and will field two teams in 2011.

The just concluded Zimbabwean league has confirmed that  Motor Action , new champions, will be joined by perennial campaigners Dynamos FC in the champions league.

After initial indications that Zimbabwe will not field any teams in the Confederations Cup, Highlanders' name surprisingly appeared as the only Zimbabwean representatives in the competitions.

The fixtures released by CAF today indicate that Bosso will face Nchanga Rangers of Zambia in a preliminary first leg match to be played during the month end of January 2011, with the 2nd leg pencilled for the weekend of 11,12,13 February.

Energy Murambadoro's Bidvest Wits, winners of the rich Nedbank tournament last season, will also compete in the Confed Cup preliminary against US S't Marienne of Re-union.

In the Champions League fixtures, Motor Action was paired against Cnaps Sports of  Madagascar in a preliminary round of matches, whose first legs will take place on the last weekend of January 2011.

Dynamos is one of the nine giants who received a bye in the preliminary round. Other teams who received byes include Champions league title holders TP Mazembe, who made history last weekend by contesting the Club World Cup final against winners Inter Milan.

Other teams who benefited from byes are Al-Ahly of Egypt, Sudanese giants Hilal and Al-Merreikh, E.S.T of Tunisia,  E.S.S of Algeria, Al Ittihad of Libya and Stade Malien of Mali.

South African champions Supersport, who have struggled to make any impact in continental competitions in the past three attempts, will face an interesting challenge in the form of Matlama FC from neighbours Lesotho.
