Samuel Eto'o Fils dominated the 2010 GLO-CAF Football awards held in Cairo, Egypt on the night of Monday 20 December, when he was voted African Footballer of the year for a record 4th time.

The most decorated African player previously won the award in 2003,2004, and 2005 when he bagged the prestigious award three times in a row.

It was not much of a suprise that Eto'o was chosen ahead of challengers Asamoah Gyan of Ghana and Sunderland, who came second and Ivory Coast's Chelsea star Didier Drogba, the previous winner, who finished third.

Beezsports had predicted Eto'o would scoop the award, given the accolades he won last season with Inter Milan, and after becoming the highest ever scorer at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola early this year.

Here are the details, courtesy of the CAF website, of Eto'o's achievements in the period under review which convinced international coaches of African teams that he was King of African football this year :

Date of Birth: March 10, 1981

Club: Inter Milan (Italy)

CAN 2010: 2 goals and qarter-finalists with Cameroon

Italy: 16 goals for Inter Milan in 2009/2010 season, Serie A winner, Coppa Italia winner, UEFA Champions League winner

CAN 2012 qualifiers: 2 goals

With such a fact-file, who could ever doubt that King Eto'o was a worthy winner last night? Eto'o, who won Gold as Player of the tournament at the just ended Club World Cup in Dubai, deserves to even walk away as FIFA Player of the Year.

Other notable winners on the colourful football night include National Team of the Year award, which went to Ghana, deservedly. Their coach during the period under review, Milovan Rajevac won Coach of the Year ward.

A surprise winner for Footballer of the Year for those players based in Africa was Ahmed Hassan of Egypt, even in a year when Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup, and Al Ah
