Zambia opts to play Kuwait instead of Warriors

Zimbabwe unlikely to play Zambia before end of the year

Poor planning on the part of the Zimbabwe Football Association has cost the senior national soccer team, the Warriors a crucial CHAN preparatory match against neighbours Zambia.

On 19 December, the Warriors were scheduled to play Chipolopolo in Lusaka, but ZIFA had inexplicably agreed to a match knowing fully well that all the players they intended to use from the local premiership would be engaged in crucial last PSL matches of the season.

The 19th December tie had to be cancelled, but ZIFA insisted that the match had not been cancelled, and told the nation that it had only been moved to a later date just before end of 2010.

With news that the Zambians have pencilled their senior national team to play Kuwait on 31 December in Cairo, Egypt, ZIFA's poor organisational abilities and possible lies have been badly exposed...once again.

There is no way that the Zambians can accommodate their flip-flopping neighbours between now and the match against Kuwait on New Year's eve.

So, will ZIFA now come up with a new explanantion plucked from...and tell the nation that the match has been changed again and that this time the game will be played in the New Year just before the CHAN finals?

The match against the Zambians was expected to give caretaker coach Madinda Ndlovu a chance to test the players who will do duty for the nation at the Chamiponship of Nations  finals in Sudan early in 2011.

Zimbabwe has been on a free fall on the FIFA ranking table for more than two years now.  Poor performance of the Warriors in terms of ranking has been blamed partly on poor planning by ZIFA and its failure to arrange meaningful friendly matches on FIFA days.

A lower ranking is likely to affect players such as Knowledge Musona should there be an English club that comes knocking on his door for his signature either in the January transfer period or at the end of the ABSA PSL season in South Africa.
