Beaking News: Mutasa is new Dynamos coach

"Samaita" Mutasa is the new Dynamos coach

Lloyd "Samaita" Mutasa has been appointed to replace departed Elvis Chiweshe as Dynamos' new Head Coach, with effect from yesterday, club Secretary Oliver Manyau has revealed to the media.

Mutasa, who led Kiglon to a fairytale finish in the just ended Premier Soccer League season in Zimbabwe, has been offered a long term contract as DeMbare's new coach .

In a completely new technical set-up at Dynamos for 2011, Samaita will be assisted by his trusted crew of Masimba Dinyero and Callisto Pasuwa. Richard Chihoro replaces Nyika Chifamba as Team Manager. Tichaona Diya is retained as goalkeepers' coach.

Though the details of Lodza's contract will be released at a later stage, the club has set major goals for the former Glamour Boys midfield kingpin, contained in Manyau's announcement.

"We can formally announce that Lloyd Mutasa is now the substantive coach. He takes over on a long term contract whose details shall be released in due course.

"His immediate task is to bring back the coveted local Premiership title to Dynamos and improve on our rankings in Africa.

"We dropped from sixth to ninth within 12 months and we want to improve on that. We have short, medium and long term plans that coincide with our 50th anniversary in 2013.

"We want to be in the top five by the time of the anniversary, win the Champions League or at least reach the final. So, we are not putting pressure on Mutasa to bring the Champions League next season," Manyau announced on behalf of Dynamos on Wednesday.

Despite Manyau's statement that there will not be pressure on Mutasa, setting goals can either be a motivation or pressure for any coach.

Dynamos are eager to bounce back from a nightmarish performance in the Champions League this year.

The Glamour Boys only managed a single win in six matches, that is against Entente Setif of Algeria, and suffered humiliating defeats against TP Mazembe at home and away.

That poor performance in Africa menat that it was just a mater of time before Chiweshe was shown the door.

Chiweshe though, must be credited for pushing eventual champions Motor Action until the last day when the title was decided on goal difference. He also managed to lead Dynamos to some silverware by clinching the ZAOGA Jubilee Charity Shield and the BancABC Super 8 trophy.

Mutasa's stock as a coach has been rising over the years, and towards the end of the season, he played the spoiler by beating his former club Dynamos in a crucial league match, which killed DeMbare's chances of winning the title this year.
