January Transfer Rumours in the ABSA Premiership

Brent Carelse leads January movements in the ABSA PSL

The January transfer rumour mill has been busy at work in the past few weeks. Some players have already made moves ahead of the resumption of the ABSA PSL following a festive break

Ajax Cape Town

Brent Carelse has arrived at the Ikamva-based club from champions Supersport United.  The champions' coach has revealed that the attacking midfielder was home-sick and wanted to return to his home in Cape Town and so requested a transfer. Carelse returns to the club he played for between 2001 and 2007, making 105 appearances and scoring 16 goals.

Golden Arrows

The team announced before Christmas that veteran Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma was given a season's loan with a year extension option.

Abafana besthende have been rocked by revelations that one of their players allegedely failed a doping test during the match against Platinum stars on November 28. The identity of the player has not yet been revealed, but suspects that the player could be Philane Shange. The paper's suspicion is based on the inconclusive fact that the player has coincidentally missed a number of matches for his club. It is possible that the player could be injured.

Supersport United

The ABSA PSL champions have swooped on Aminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez as a replacement for Emile Baron whose future at the club is in doubt following reports of misconduct on and off the field of play. Baron has also been a candidate of injuries during his stay at Matsatsantsa a Pitoli.

United has already lost Carelse to Ajax on loan in a deal believe to be a swap deal which sees Mario Booysen heading the opposite direction , while Botswana international footballer Joel Mogorosi is expected to join his feloow countrymen at the Tshwane based club, Dipsy Selolwane and Mogogi Gabonamong who is reported to have signed a pre-contract with Supersport a few yesterday.

Maritzburg United

The KZN side invited two players for trials. Orlando Pirates fringe striker Gert Schalkwyk and another player who has struggled to command a regular berth at his club, Fanyana Dhladhla of Mamelodi Sundowns were seen going through their paces under the watchful eye of former Kaizer Chiefs coach early this morning.

Vasco da Gama

Despite the technical team at the PSL's new boys claimed a week ago that they are happy with their current squad and will not be adding any new players, indications are that they may yet have a new name on their official books before end of the transfer period. Botswana national tea, the Zebras' star Jerome Ramatlhakwana has been training with the club for some months now, and was only prevented from joining Vasco due to a dispute with his former club Santos. It appears that the January transfer window could bring a ray of hope for both Vasco and Ramathlakwana.

Vasco may also end up with two new players if Ajax grant want-away striker Stanton Lewis his transfer wishes. Lewis is frustrated by lack of game time and has put in a tranfer request to the club authorities. It is rumoured that his destination is highly likely to be city neighbours Vasco.
