Benjani scored a brace against Liverpool in Blackburn"s 3-1 victory

Benjamin "Benjani" Mwaruwari fired a magnificent brace and Martin Olsson a single goal past giants Liverpool in Blackburn's 3-1 league routing of the Reds to heap more pressure on under fire coach of the Anfield club, Roy Hodgson.

Blackburn drew first blood, when an enterprising Olsson struck a short past Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina in the 32nd minute before a Benjani double gave Rovers a 3-0 lead before the hour mark.

Six minutes later, former Zimbabwe skipper Benjani picked up the ball inside the box and skinned the Reds defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos, before firing a rising shot past Reina to give Ewood Park wild celebrations before the break with an unlikely 2-0 lead against Liverpool.

Liverpool played a subdued game in the the first 45 minutes and the home team dominated proceedings at Ewod Park. Rovers deservedly went to Half time leading by two clear goals.

The second half saw the Reds coming out their shell and they indeed dominated possession early on to inspire hopes to the thousands who had followed the team to Ewood Park.

Retired Zimbabwean international Benjani was in no mood to allow Liverpool back into the game, and in about 10 minutes after the restart, he increased Rovers' advantage to 3 goals.

Olsson combined brilliantly with Junior Hoilett  on the left channel, and the youngster did well to beat Martin Skrtel before squaring the ball for an alert Benjani in the box. The former Machester City forward made no mistake, and with a simple tap in made in 3-0 for the hosts.

Benjani has not started in many games for Blackburn since November 6, but he showed the hunger and composure of a regular.

The Zimbabwean has proved to have a big match temperament as he proved by scoring each time he plays the Premierships's big boys. He opened the scoring in Rovers' 1-2 defeaat at home to helsea on 20 October.

Benjani also used to score regularly against the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool during his hey days at Portsmouth and later at Manchester City.

Because of the African player's two goals and Liverpool's defeat at Ewood Park, coach Hogdson now faces a very bleak future at Anfield. Liverpool are due to announce this week whether the coach will be fired or given another chance to prove himself.
