"Mr. Cooper" appointed Bosso substantive coach

Mkhupali Masuku has been appointed Highlanders head coach

Upcoming and promising coach Mkhupali "Mr. Cooper" Masuku has finally been confirmed as  a substative Head Coach for Highlanders Football Club following months of speculation.

Masuku's appointment on Monday as coach has ended month-long speculation, and is seen as due reward for the excellent work done by the young coach when he took over the reins on a caretaker basis following the resignation of Egyptian Mohammed Fathi in September last season.

Mr Cooper, who was still on the Bosso books as a player when he was thrust into the hot seat, took the Bulawayo giants from 9th position on the log and almost gatecrashed the title race towards the end of the season, finishing 3rd on the log behind Dynamos and eventual title winners Motor Action.

Highlanders was regarded as the best team in the league on form during the last 11 games of the season in which Masuku was in charge. The young coach never lost any of the 11 matches he took charge of last season, winning 9 matches and drawing two.

Masuku has been given the greenlight to appoint his own assistant, but the Bosso executive has already made Jerry Sibanda the team's Welfare Manager, and this appointment was announced at the same press conference where Mr. Cooper was unveiled.

The new coach has been given an initial one year contract, something which appears to have been designed to put the young coach under pressure to deliver, just like he did towards the end of last season.

Bosso has of late been hit by a spate of player withdrawals and threats by other players to leave the club.

Striker Francis Kanda has already moved to Dynamos, and Protasho Kabwe has been signed by Zimbabwe's new cash cow, Northern Region Division one side Highfield, who immediately loaned him to Black Mambas for the new season.

The Ngodzo brothers, Zephaniah and Joel, have indicated that they will too leave the club for greener pastures.

Zephaniah is reported to be currently undergoing trials at ABSA Premiership defending champions in South Africa, Supersport United. Joel was reported to have gone for trials at newly promoted Vasco da Gama of Cape Town.

Good news for Bosso however, is that some senior players have resolved to stick with the team, after having earlier expressed their desire to dump the club due to the alleged poor handling of the issue of outstanding payments by the club's executive.
