England v USA: Preview of Live Match

Match Venue: Royal Bafokeng Palace, Rustenburg

Kick-Off : 20h00 SA Time (18h00 GMT)

Coverage: Beezsport Live.

ENGLAND coach Fabio Capello says that he has confidence in his team. I have confidence in the team because we played well during the qualifying matches and during the more recent friendlies. And there is a great deal of confidence and I feel really responsible for all of this. But I do believe that this time around we have a team, a squad that can make it to the final.

Ledley King is expected to partner John Terry in the heart of defence. Chelsea's skillful midfielder Joe Cole is expected to take the place of injured Gareth Barry. Emile Hesky will likely partner Wayne Rooney upfront. There is no clarity as to which keeper will start given worries over David James' fitness. Capello has remained tight-lipped on whether James has recovered. It could be anyone of James, Joe Hart or Rob Green, if James is not fit to play in today's match.

USA coach Bob Bradley admits that Rooney is England's greatest asset. "I would agree with that. I think hes such an important player in their team. He comes off a super season, so our ability to keep track of him and make it hard for him is a very important part of what we need to do in order to win.

Jozy Altidore will certainly start upfront after recovering from an ankle injury and Edson Buddle will likely partner him. Key defender Oguchi Onyewu is a fitness concern for the Americans.

The two teams have met about 9 times between 1781 and 2008, with England winning 5 times, while USA won 4 times. No matches have been drawn, and we are unlikely to see a draw today. USA knocked out England in their last World Cup meeting in 1950. Could they repeat that today? Or will England avenge their last World Cup 0-1 loss to USA? We'll know only after 90 minutes today.
