Kenya: 10-man Leopards dispatch Ulinzi

Champions Ulinzi Stars suffered their second defeat of the season when they were gunned down 1–0 by an enterprising Leopards in a thrilling affair at Afraha Stadium.

The goal came 10 minutes into the second half when Hugo Nzoka laid a square pass on the path of second half substitute Evans Wandera who swept it into the roof of the net.

Nzoka also hit the upright with a sizzling shot with goalkeeper Francis Ochieng’ well beaten in the first half.

It was not as if Ingwe were superior to the soldiers but they made good use of the golden scoring chance they got against their opponents who squandered a dozen chances.

The soldiers played their hearts out in the first half, dominating with some crisp passes but could not go past goalkeeper Barnabas Tiema who was undoubtedly the man of the match.

Wandera turned villain when he was given his marching orders by Fifa referee Davies Omweno for tripping Ulinzi captain Stephen Ocholla.

In the 90th minute what would have been Ulinzi’s equalising goal was superbly saved by Tiema.

Ulinzi coach Sammy Simiyu was crestfallen and snubbed the press after the final whistle.

"We are improving with every game we play and this is a good start for us," a satisfied Leopards technical director Matano said during the post-match interview.

Elsewhere, Congo United were twice denied by the goal post in their barren draw against Rangers at Nyayo Stadium.

Simba Lazaro almost uprooted the post with a thunderbolt from the edge of the area while Edward Balembi shaved the upright early in the first half as the league debutants showed plenty of promise.

But the coast based side will be happy to have come out with a point in the evenly matched affair.

Rangers, showed some sleek moves, reminiscent of their 3-0 mauling of Gor Mahia three weeks ago, but they could not convert this into goals.

Kevin Ochieng could not properly direct his header after fine work by diminutive left back Jaffer Gichuki while Joseph Nyaga spurned a great opportunity in the six yard box when the rebound ball fell kindly to his feet in Rangers best chances of the match.

Other results:

KCB 2 City Stars 0 at City Stadium,

Sony Sugar 2 Chemelil Sugar 1 at Awendo.
