Dynamos warms up for CL with Charity Shield

Dynamos lifted their first silverware in 2011. Sign of many to come this season?Only time will tell

Zimbabwe's representatives in the Champions League this year, Dynamos and Motor Action warmed up for their opponents with a highly competitive NetOne Charity Shiled outing at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday. Dynamos won the final 4-1 on penalties.

The match had ended 2-2, with the Champions having squandered numerous goal scoring opportunities towards the end of the match.

Murape Murape and Timire Mamvura scored DeMbare's two goals, while the Mighty Bulls' goals were scored by Enasio Perezo and Masimba Mambare to leave the tie level at 2-2 before the penalty lottery.

During the penalty kicks, Dynamos scored 4, while Motor Action could only convert one of their penalties. Dembare keeper Washington Arubi emerged the hero for the last season's runners-up, with two crucial saves.

The season opener was meant to give the soccer fans a taste of what to look out for in the next season, with teams expected to field their strongest squads.

However, the match coincided with preparations for the CAF Champions League fixtures involving the two Zimbabwean clubs, and saw Dynamos playing with extra caution, choosing to rest key players such as the in-form Archieford Gutu, Devon Chafa, Denver Mukamba, among others star players.

In playing a different squad to the usual squad used by coach Lloyd Mutasa to defeat the other two of the country's three biggest profile clubs CAPS and Highlanders recently, the Glamour Boys proved that theybhave the much needed depth as they plunge into the African Safari.

Dynamos is expected to play host to Algerian CL representatives MS Algiers on Sunday at Rufaro Stadium, while Motor Action will face seasoned campaigners ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast 24 hours earlier, at the same venue.
