Supersport fall to Al Ahly in Cairo

Ahly beat Supersport United 2-0 in the Champions League 2nd round 1st leg in Cairo

South Africa's champions, Supersport United failed to hold their own in the intimidating giant Cairo Stadium, and succumbed easily to a 2-0 deafeat at the hands of Africa's club of the millenium, Al Ahly in the 1st leg of the CAF Champions League 2nd round.

Al Ahly won courtesy of goals from Osama Hosni and Mauritania-import Dominique Da Silva.

The Egyptian giants had received a bye in the First round and only joined the Champions League action at second round, but never showed signs of rustiness, even after their domestic league was interrupted by the political upheaval which swept through Egypt recently.

Ahly found their opener as early as the 3rd minute, when Hosni headed home a beautiful cross from Ahmed Fathy, who had been set up beautifully by Hossam Galy's long pass.

The Egyptians generally dominated the encounter, but the Amatsatsantsa a Pitoli had moments when they demonstrated that they can also play a slick passing game, but their play did not threaten the Ahly goal at all.

Dominique punished the ABSA Premiership champions' famed South African football style, the Shoe-shine piano, with Ahly's 2nd goal of the match six-minutes from time.

Mohammed Shawky was the provider of the pass this time around, opening up the Supersport defence to set up the Mauritanian for the home team's second goal.

Supersport will be hoping to turn the tables against Ahly when they visit Pretoria for the 2nd leg in two weeks' time.

Meanwhile in another Champions League match played in Egypt, Ismalia dispatched Kenya's Sofapaka 2-0 in Ismalia to take a comfortable lead to the 2nd leg in Nairobi, Kenya in a fortnight.

Striker Mohamed Abou Greisha scored the opener on 10 minutes before midfielder Hosny Abd Rabou sealed victory five minutes later for Ismalia.

In Uganda, Victors and visiting Motema Pembe of DRC played out to a 1-1 draw. Victors took the lead through Yuda Mugaluís 19th minute goal, before Motema scored a late goal through Ilongo Ngasanja's 80th minute strike.

Conceding a late goal will put Victors under immense pressure going into the return leg in Kinshasa within two weeks.
