UGANDA: Cranes fly to Senegal for AFCON tie

A team of 18 Uganda Cranes players and 4 officials travelled to Senegal for training this morning to prepare for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea Bissau this weekend.

The Cranes left the country at around 5:00am using the Kenyan Airways at Entebbe International Airport in Kampala.

Sir Bobby Robert Williamson’s side’s travel to Bissau was in doubt after Federation of Uganda Football’s Association’s failure to raise 180 Million Uganda shillings to enable his side to participate in the tournament smoothly, an incident which called for the intervention of the president who provided the 186 million to the Cranes last week.

Of the 18 players who were on board, only 5 play in Uganda Super League, the rest are professionals who ply their trade in leagues in foreign lands.

The leader of the Cranes delegation Mr. Abbas Sejobba left last week to prepare the accommodation and the training grounds for the Cranes.

Williamson who is currently facing a lot of crictisms following his side’s poor show in Championship of Nations tournament has to revive Ugandans' hopes by defeating Bissau to enlighten the cranes' chances of qualifying to Africa’s most prestigious Football tournament .

The Cranes are currently atop in Group J with 4 points in 2 matches.
