UGANDA: KCC, URA lose in Uganda Super League

The dual leaders of the Uganda Super League KCC and URA F.C’s tittle bid stuttered over this weekend following their unexpected away defeats to bottom teams Masaka LC and UTODA respectively.

URA, who are curently topping log standings in the Uganda super League with 35 points in 17 matches suffered a 2-1 loss against UTODA at Wankulukuku Stadium in a match they needed to win in order to strengthen their position at the top of the table and increase chances of winning the title.

Birung Mike who was dropped from the under 21 national team against Congo Brazzaville in the 2012 under 23 Olympic qualifiers proved the U21 coach Frank Video Anyau wrong by netting a 26th minute goal and his sharp cross in the 8th minute was deflected by the URA defender Derrick Walulya netting in his own goal making it 2-0 in the first half.

URA’s new signing and substitute to Augustine Nsube, Nene, netted a 61st minute consolation goal for Alex Isabirye’s side making it 2-1 at full time.

URA however remained in the first position in the USL with 35 points in 17 matches, despite the weekend set back.

In a related development, KCC who needed to regain their first position, crashed to Masaka LC F.C at Masaka Recreational Grounds in a match which ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Haman Wassa’s 80th minute goal was a nightmare to Martia Lule’s side since it freezed his chances of regaining his conquered territory.

KCC lies second in the USL table with 35 points in 16 matches, 3 goals behind tables toppers URA and with a match in hand.
