Two top sides in the ABSA Premiership in South Africa produced a stunning duel, which was as rich in industry and goals, but at the end of the day 90 or so minutes could not seperate Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town whose tie ended in a 4-4 draw in Pretoria.

Ajax, log leaders before tonight's fixtures, arrived in the capital with a mission to collect three crucial points against.

The Capetonians were the first ones to hit the back of the net in the 25th minute through Terror Fanteni, following a Brent Carelse corner kick, which the home team's defence failed to deal with.

The Ajax goal spurred Ajax on, and Teko Modise forced Hans Vonk into a save from a 30-metre drive.

Five minutes before half time, Vonk brought down Elias Pelembe, and Katlego Mphela played the villain when his tame effort was easily saved by the veteran former Ajax Amsterdam and Bafana Bafana keeper.

Vonk was at it again to deny probably Sundowns' best player on view on the night, Nyasha Mushekwi, whose great shot received an equally brilliant save from the Ajax keeper.

Early on in the 2nd half, Siyanda Xulu was very unfortunate to have been adjudge to have brought down Fanteni in the box, and Carelse stepped up to beat Wayne Sandilands, to give Ajax a two goal lead in the 47th minute.

Shortly afterwards, Mushekwi returned to haunt Vonk, and his powerful header could only be ounched by Vonk into the path of an on-rushing Xulu to easily score, and pull one back for the Brazillians.

Thulani Serero, who was forever a thorn in the Downs' defence players flesh, ripped apart the defence before a superb finish past Sandilands in the 53rd minute to set up Ajax's two goal advantage.

Serero returned to haunt Downs when he set up Carelse to score his second of the night in the 56th minute and increase Ajax's advantage to three goals, at 4-1.

The home team  regrouped, and through Pelembe reduced the gap to only two goals in the 56th minute.

Sundowns continued to probe, and grabbed two goals within 4minutes to change the complexion of the game.

In the 72nd minute, Franklin Cale struck a perfect shot from the right, and caught Vonk slightly off the line to score Downs' 3rd goal and increase hope of a come-back.

From there on, Downs pinned the Urban Warriors in their own half. In the 76th minute, the magical moment the Brazillians wre waiting for arrived. Mushekwi received a pass from on the left, roasted his marker, Descamps, before squaring for Mphela for the simplest of tap-ins.

That brought the score-line to 4-4, and what an amazing draw it was!

With the draw, Ajax swapped places with Orlando Pirates who overame battling Moroka Swallows, and though the two teams are tied at 53 points, Bucs have a superior goal difference.
