CAPS on a roll

CAPS two points ahead at the summit of the Castle Lager PSL Log after 4-0 drubbing of Shabanie

Former Zimbabwe Champions and 2010 CAF: Confederation Cup representatives CAPS United have proved that their first two high scoring victories in the Premiership league since March were no fluke, when they fired 4-0 past hapless Shabanie FC on Saturday in Harare.

The Twine Phiri owned side displayed attacking football at its best, and clobbered the winless asbestos miners through four qualifty strikes at Rufaro Stadium to maintain a 100% recod in the Castle Lager PSL after three matches.

Evans Gwekwerere, who joined the Green Machine from the blue half of the city of Harare, has now scored his second goal for CAPS.

Moses Chunga will be satisfied that his team is displaying a devastating team effort, and does not rely on one striker to get goals.

The four goals scored at Rufaro on Saturday, apart from Gwekwerer's wonder strike in the first half, were contributed two midfielders, Norest Mkwezaramba and Stephen Alimenda, while young striker Simba Sithole added to his four goals to end up with 5 goals to his credit after the weekend.

Sithole, an Under 23 striker who is proving to be one of the best finds of the past 10 months, has now scored in all of CAPS' three matches thus far.

Following the Saturday victory, CAPS still sit aloft of the PSL summit with 9 points out of three games, and a massive 14 goals after scoring 10 goals in two matches previously. Their goal difference now stands an an intimidating +9 in only three outings.

On Saturday, Chunga managed to shore up his defence and prevented it from getting breached this time, after it was breached five times by Zimbabwe Saints and Shooting Stars whom Makepekepe beat 5-3 and 5-2 respectively in their first two league matches.

While it may be too early to speak of CAPS' championship credentials, there is no doubting that Chunga's men are on a mission, and the mission is to conquer all and sundry in the rebranded PSL.

CAPS will however have to deal with defending champions Motor Action who demonstated their intentions to defend the title they won last year for the first time with a 2-0 crushing of Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Other serious contenders include, surprise-surprise...Chicken Inn, who in their debut season in the PSL are currently sitting on 2nd with 7 points from three matches, trailing pace setters CAPS by only two points. Other debutants FC Platinum, are also breathing hard under CAPS' noses at 7 points.

Other PSL results over the weekend

Dynamos 0-2 Motor Action

Hihglanders 0-0 Masvingo United

Black Mambas 2-1 Zimbabwe Saints

Kiglon 0-0 Hwange
