Musona back on top-goal scorers' chart

Musona back at the top of the goal scorers" chart

Kaizer Chiefs striking sensation Knowledge Musona who has experienced a deep in goal scoring form since new year, scored a crucial goal for both his club's title ambitions and his Premier Soccer League topmarksman' dreams when Chiefs beat Suersport 2-0 on Wednesday.

Musona's superb form since the beginning of the season has been blighted by injuries he has suffered since the beginning of 2011, and he has had to miss a good number of his club's league and cup games.

Each time he returned to action, Musona's game has struggled a bit, especially the goal-scoring aspect which has made the PSL expectant of something magical from the Chiefs talisman each time the Phefeni Boys are in action.

Having dislocated his shoulder in a match last month, followed by may weeks on the sidelines, Musona scored in only his second match since his return, when he finished a great team build-up against Supersport United at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

The great move in the 15th minute was started by star midfielder Reneihlwe Letsolonyane, who qucikly fed Chiefs' man-of-the moment Siphiwe Tshabalala. Shabba superbly set-up Musona, who found it easy to place the ball beyond the reach of Rowen Fernandez.

Chiefs added a second goal in the 88th minute when Chiefs raided inspired Supersport's goal through a quick counter attack which saw Abia Nale racing down the left channel of midfield before sqauring for Letsholonyane who beat Fernandez from the edge of the box.

Musona has now joined Katelgo Mphela of Mamelodi Sundowns as a top goal scorer at the top of the charts with 12 goals.

With only four matches to go before the nd of the season, there is stiff competition for this year's Golden Boot award.

Breathing down the necks of Musona and Mphela are Lehlohonolo Majoro of Amazulu, Mphela's team mate at Sundowns and Musona' Warriors strike partner Nyasha Mushekwi who sit at 11 and 10 goals respectively.

Musona's club coach Vladimir Vermozovic has reiterated his opinion that hhis star striker is quality.

VV has advised his prized asset not to put himself under pressure to become the top goal-scorer in the PSL this season.

But VV needs to be reminded that the young Zimbabwean is a passionate and very ambitious striker and it remains to be seen if Musona will heed VV's caution and advice.

Winning the Golden Boot award is Musona's number one priority, make no mistake about it. This passion and drive is the real reason why he returned to action sooner than expected.

The young Warriors' star has already tasted glory by winning numerous awards in his young career, and he will stop at nothing to add to his growing collection of honours.

To date, Musona has won the Rookie of the Year award for the 2009/2010 season, the Telkom Charity Cup Top Striker Award, and was PSL Player of the month twice, during the October/November and December /January months.
