CPT Ajax go top after Arrows win

Billiat scored Ajax"s first goal as the Urban Warriors beat G. Arrows 2-1 in Cape Town

Ajax Cape Town dislodged Orlando Pirates at the top of the ABSA Premier Soccer League following a hard earned 2-1 victory over visiting Golden Arrows on Friday night.

Khama Billiat and Clayton Daniels scored Ajax's crucial goals to earn the Urban Warriors a vital win, and open a three point gap at the top of the PSL log.

Before last Friday' game, Foppe de Haan's boys were trailing Pirates only by a single goal in goal difference, and have now heaped pressure on the Buccaneers to win at all costs in their match against out-going champions Supersport United.

Pirates had a plus 18 goal difference while Ajax had plus 17 before the Friday fixture. The Urban Warriors now have an equal goal difference to Pirates and Ruud Krol's team has to negotiate its way past a revived Supersport.

On a chilly Friday night at Athlone Stadium, visiting Arrows went ahead as early as the 2nd minute, after speedy merchant  Tangeni Shipahu created the goal which was scored by the in-form Ayanda Dlamini.

Ajax had to fight back, and young Zimbabwean attacking midfielder Khama Billiart fashioned the goal which he ultimately scored, when he fed Thulani Serero on the wing, before the enterprising Bafana trialist crossed for the Warriors' star to powerfully head in in the 31st minute.

Daniels was to make sure of an Ajax victory in the 53rd minute when he scored through a volley from a corner kick.

The 2010/2011 ABSA premiership is proving to be one of the best seasons in the history of the PSL in South Africa. With two games left, it is difficult to tell with certainty who will walk away as champions.

Ajax though, have their destiny firmly in their hands, and Pirates have to do catch up, and today's fixture against the improving champions will prove to be tricky.

The Urban Warriors' youngsters are eager to give their out-going coach de Haan a befitting sending-off gift, and nothing does it better than lifting the ABSA Premiership crown.

The Capetonians look determined to win the league in tribute to the role de Haan has played at the club in the last few months, and it is difficult to see them putting any foot wrong anytime soon.
