Nigeria are new African U"20 champions

Nigeria's Under 20 national soccer team are the new champions of Africa following their 3-2 victory over rivals Cameroon in the final of the Orange Youth African Championships at Johannesburg's Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams match each other for skill and pace earlier in a first half which yielded no goals. That all changed in a second half that witnessed an avalanche of goals from the two hungry rivals.

After forcing Nigeria into second fiddle during the early stages of the match, Cameroon had to rely on counter attacks following the revival of the Fyling Eagles in the second stanza.

The goal feast opened in the 75th minute when Kayode Ayobami broke the deadlock and thrust the young Eagles into the lead.

Kayode proved a thorn in the flesh of the Cameroonians, and in about five minutes after his goal, he created the 2nd when he was brought down in the box, and Nwofor Innocent converted.

Cameroon were not to be outdone, and the Young Lions responded with two quick fire goals within three minutes.

First it was Ohandza Franck who netted the Junior Lions' first goal, before Salli Nicaise forced the match into extra time following a superb equaliser.

Nigeria won the final in extra time, when Envoh Terry scored the winner in the very first minute of extra time.
