Uruguay will miss Diego Godin due to an inury picked up in their last 16 match against South Korea.  Mauricio Victorino will take his place.

Uruguay coach named his starting team during mid-week and has named Alvaro Fernandez to replace Alvaro Perreira in midfield.

Ghana duo of midfielder Kevin Boateng Prince and striker Asamoah Gyan are expected to pass a late fitness to feature for the Black stars on Friday.

Isaac Vorsah has fully recovered from he injury that prevented him from featuring in Ghana's last two matches. His replacement young Jonathan Mensah will sit out today's match due to suspension, and Vorsah is expected to comfortably fill the void left by the suspended young star.

Uruguay have not qualified for the quarters ever since 1970. The last time they reached the last, they progressed to the semi-finals after beating the former USSR, but then lost 1-3 to Brazil in the semis.

Uruguay have only conceded one goal so far in the current World Cup.

Since the 2002, they have not lost a match at the World Cup games, and remain unbeaten in the last 6 games at the World Cup finals.

Ghana have became only the 3rd African team to reach the quarters after Senegal in 2002 and Cameroon earlier in 1990. They will make history if they manage to win today and qualify for the semi-finals.

Asamoah Gyan is the only Ghanaian player to have scored at both the 2006 and this current World Cup. He has scored a total of 4 goals, including the 3 he has already scored at this world cup.

The two teams have met in only one international match, but only at Under 20 World Cup level. Ghana and Uruguay drew 2-2 in a group match.
