Taiwo joins AC Milan

Taiwo swaps French Ligue 1 for Italian Serie A as he joins AC Milan

The coach of Serie A winning side AC Milan, Massimilliano Allegri has announced the capture of Olympique Marseille defender Taye Taiwo, who is et to join the scudetto winners during the off-season.

The 26 year old Nigerian left back is a free agent at the end of the French season and joins the Milan giants for free.

Taiwo won the French Ligue 1 with Marseille last season and has been a very influential player for the French giants for the past few seasons. The Nigerian joined Marseille in 2005 and has won the French league title and cup.

On Monday, Milan coach Allegri boasted that he had captured two prized assets to shore up his defence, possibly for the CFhampions league battles next season as well as their defence of the Serie A title, their first in seven years.

"In defence, Milan are sorted. We have taken (Philippe) Mexes and Taiwo," Allegri said this week.

Taiwo will join France centre back Phillipe Mexes who also moves to Marseille from AS Roma on a free transfer.

Taiwo has made 200 appearance for the French club, and scored the only goal in last month's French Cup triumph. He has also gained valuable experience with Marseille in the UEFA Champions League, the experience which counted heavily in his favour in Allegri's eyes.
